Basketball Recap: Santa Cruz Valley Dust Devils vs. Veritas Prep Falcons

Santa Cruz Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They came up short against the Veritas Prep Falcons, falling 56-33. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Dust Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 63-27 last Monday.

Despite the defeat, Santa Cruz Valley saw an underclassman step up: freshman Atiana Harris posted nine points.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Veritas Prep to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aileen De La Fuente, who almost dropped a double-double on 13 points and nine steals. De La Fuente continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played. Valeria Castaneda was another key player, going 5 of 8 en route to 16 points and five boards.

Santa Cruz Valley's loss dropped their record down to 3-14. As for Veritas Prep, they pushed their record up to 9-11 with the victory, which was their third straight at home.

As of now, neither Santa Cruz Valley nor Veritas Prep have any future games scheduled.
