Volleyball Recap: Madison Alves Key Part of Team Effort in Spartans Win

Bishop Stang lost to Westport back in September, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Spartans put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 3-0 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their three-match losing streak.

While Bishop Stang won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the third set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-14, 25-15, 25-22.

Bishop Stang got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Madison Alves out in front who had eight digs, two aces, and one block. What's more, Alves racked up 23 assists, the most she's had over her last six matchups. The team also got some help courtesy of Sienna Mendes, who had seven digs, five kills, and five aces.

They weren't the only good servers: Bishop Stang was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 16 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least six aces in 12 consecutive contests.

Bishop Stang's win bumped their record up to 5-10. As for Westport, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

Bishop Stang wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-1 loss against Archbishop Williams on the 21st. As for Westport, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 3-0 victory against Monomoy on the 22nd.
