Basketball Game Preview: Chaney Cowboys vs. McKinley Red Dragons

The Chaney Cowboys will face off against the McKinley Red Dragons at 7:00 p.m. on Monday.

On Saturday, Chaney lost to Steubenville on the road by a 64-45 margin. The loss put an end to the Cowboys' undefeated start to the season.

Despite the loss, Chaney saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Alyssa Brown shot 41% from the field to rack up 24 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. The matchup was Brown's sixth in a row with at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Serenity Parker, who posted eight points and nine boards.

Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led McKinley over Brookfield in every quarter on their way to victory on Thursday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Red Dragons blew the Warriors out of the water with a 50-12 final score. With the Red Dragons ahead 29-6 at the half, the game was all but over already.

McKinley has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 32 points this season. As for Chaney, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 2-1.

Chaney strolled past McKinley in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a score of 69-53. Will the Cowboys repeat their success, or do the Red Dragons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
