Basketball Recap: Mariana Moody Key Part of Team Effort in Vikings Win

Spring Valley won the last time they faced Lugoff-Elgin and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Spring Valley Vikings strolled past the Lugoff-Elgin Demons with points to spare, taking the game 61-46. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 23rd, while the Demons are ranked 140th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Spring Valley's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mariana Moody led the charge by almost dropping a double-double with 19 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Lauren Crosland, who went 8-for-20 en route to 18 points and four steals.

Spring Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 36 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

Lugoff-Elgin lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Teryn Hobson, who posted 15 points and three steals. Kendra Wilson was another key player, putting up eight points and four steals.

Spring Valley pushed their record up to 15-8 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. As for Lugoff-Elgin, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost 14 of their last 18 matchups, which has put a noticeable dent in their 8-18 record this season.

Coming up, Spring Valley will be playing in front of their home fans against West Florence at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Spring Valley's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last three games. Lugoff-Elgin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
