Basketball Recap: Lavin Savage's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Impact Christian Academy over Baker County

If Impact Christian Academy was riding high fresh off their 53-17 takedown of University Christian last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Impact Christian Academy Lions took a hard 55-37 fall against the Baker County Wildcats on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, the Lions can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 398th, while the Wildcats are ranked 140th).

Several Lions players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lavin Savage, who posted nine points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Savage is also on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed four or more in the last three games she's played. Jalaun Meeks was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Even though they lost, Impact Christian Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 14 offensive boards in three consecutive contests.

Baker County was led to victory by Yamise Haygood and Natalia Strachan. Haygood dropped a double-double on 26 points and 12 boards, while Strachan went 9 of 16 on her way to 21 points along with six boards and six steals.

Impact Christian Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Baker County, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.

Impact Christian Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 47-23 win against Covenant School of Jacksonville on the 10th. As for Baker County, they will square off against Fort White at 7:30 p.m. on January 14th. Both teams are headed into the matchup with plenty of momentum (Baker County has won four straight at home, while Fort White won six straight on the road), something that'll have to change.
