Basketball Recap: Fairview Takes a Loss

Fairview fought the good fight in their overtime game against Longmont on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Longmont Trojans by a score of 41-39. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Knights came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Trojans are ranked 133rd).

When it comes to explaining why Fairview lost, don't look at Spencer Brown. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points and three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Mangine, who had nine points and six rebounds.

Among those leading the charge was Gavin Northouse, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Dominic Lombrano was another key player, putting up five points along with six assists and three steals.

With the loss, Fairview broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 6-2. As for Longmont, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-3.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fairview will head out to square off against Legacy at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Legacy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.7 points per game this season. As for Longmont, they will venture away from home to challenge Niwot at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Longmont also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 54.8 points per game.
