Basketball Recap: Eastern Wayne Comes Up Short

Eastern Wayne was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were two points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 39-37 heartbreaker at the hands of the Spring Creek Gators. The Warriors were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Gators earlier this season, when they won 55-36.

Despite the loss, Eastern Wayne saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Tamiya Boone posted eight points along with 11 rebounds and four steals. Those 11 boards gave Boone a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Taleia Claude, who put up 11 points and four steals.

Eastern Wayne's defeat dropped their record down to 8-15. As for Spring Creek, their victory bumped their record up to 8-13.

Eastern Wayne does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Spring Creek, they will face off against Goldsboro at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Goldsboro will roll in looking for their 14th straight win, something Spring Creek surely won't give up without a fight.
