Softball Game Preview: Independence Mustangs vs. West Delaware Hawks

Independence hasn't had much luck against West Delaware recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Mustangs will square off against the Hawks at 5:30 p.m.

Independence is headed into Monday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Saturday. They fell 5-2 to Edgewood-Colesburg.

Meanwhile, West Delaware had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They walked away with an 8-3 victory over the Warriors.

West Delaware's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.3 runs over those games. As for Independence, their loss dropped their record down to 2-13.

Independence couldn't quite finish off West Delaware in their previous matchup back in June of 2024 and fell 7-5. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
