Football Game Preview: Garden Grove Argonauts vs. Segerstrom Jaguars + How To Watch

Two dominant backs in Quentin Pacelli and Ayden Morales are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Garden Grove Argonauts will face off against the Segerstrom Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Garden Grove has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with four straight losses, while Segerstrom will come in with four straight wins.

On Thursday, Garden Grove had to suffer through a 35-7 loss at the hands of St. Margaret's. Despite 81 more yards than the Tartans, the Argonauts couldn't convert that extra yardage to scores.

Garden Grove didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Christian Mendoza and Carlos Garcia. Mendoza is also crushing it when it comes to total tackles: he's made at least five every time he's taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, it may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Segerstrom ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They walked away with a 14-7 victory over Brea Olinda. The score was all tied up 7-7 at the break, but the Jaguars were the better team in the second half.

Segerstrom's defense made their presence known, laying out Gavyn Nicholson three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Alfredo Rivas, Jullian Hernandez, and Joseph Garcia, who each picked up one sack apiece. Segerstrom got some further help from Rivas: he picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles.

Garden Grove's defeat dropped their record down to 2-7. As for Segerstrom, their win bumped their record up to 7-2.

Thursday's contest might be decided on the ground. Garden Grove has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 252.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Segerstrom struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 255.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Garden Grove was taken down by Segerstrom 47-19 in their previous meeting back in November of 2024. Can the Argonauts avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
