Softball Recap: Mt. Vernon Marauders vs. Pendleton Heights Arabians
Mt. Vernon extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pendleton Heights Arabians. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Marauders of the 12-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.
Mt. Vernon got a good showing from Cora Rush, who tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits.
On the hitting side, Mt. Vernon saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Breanna Laffey, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Emery Wampler was another, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
As for Pendleton Heights, the win got them back to even at 10-10. The victory made it back-to-back wins for they.
On Pendleton Heights' side, Brynlie Holden made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. What's more, Holden posted three strikeouts, the most she's had over her last eight matches. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Avry Miller was excellent, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Fox, who went 3-for-5 with two runs.
Coincidentally, Mt. Vernon and Pendleton Heights will both be playing Westfield the next time they take the field. The Marauders will head out to face the Shamrocks at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Arabians will head out to face them at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
