Baseball Recap: Discovery Comes Up Short

After flying high against Haines City on Wednesday, Discovery came back down to earth. The Spartans fell 7-2 to the Lake Buena Vista Vipers on Thursday. The Spartans were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Vipers earlier this season, when they won 11-2.

Jose Quintero made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also hit a triple, marking his first of the season. Hunter Benjamin was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Discovery has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-14 record this season. As for Lake Buena Vista, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-12.

Coming up, Discovery will challenge Santa Fe Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games the Hawks have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Lake Buena Vista, they have already played their next matchup, an 18-0 defeat against Lake Nona on the 11th.
