Basketball Recap: Cameron Thomas' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Chicago Mt. Carmel over St. Laurence

Chicago Mt. Carmel has been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They fell 75-65 to the St. Laurence Vikings on Tuesday. That's two games in a row now that the Caravan have lost by exactly ten points.

Several Caravan players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cameron Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 24 points and 14 rebounds. The matchup was Thomas' sixth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Grant Best, who went 6 for 13 en route to 17 points and six boards.

Even though they lost, Chicago Mt. Carmel smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in three consecutive contests.

Chicago Mt. Carmel's defeat dropped their record down to 18-5. As for St. Laurence, the victory made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 18-5.

Chicago Mt. Carmel and St. Laurence should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. Chicago Mt. Carmel (ranked 14th) will meet St. Rita (ranked 420th) at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Similarly, St. Laurence will take on Providence-St. Mel at 7:15 p.m. on Friday up 338 places (37 vs. 375).
