Volleyball Recap: Pierce Comes Up Short

If Pierce was riding high fresh off their 3-0 takedown of O'Neill last Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Pierce fell just short of Guardian Angels Central Catholic by a score of 3-2 on Tuesday. Pierce was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Guardian Angels Central Catholic apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Pierce started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 24-26, 27-25, 25-21, 15-11.

Guardian Angels Central Catholic found their leader in sophomore Emma Cohee, who had 52 assists and six digs. Cohee is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 17 or more in each of the last 30 games she's played dating back to last season.

With the defeat, Pierce broke their three-match winning streak and moved their record to 18-7. As for Guardian Angels Central Catholic, their win was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 22-2.

Pierce and Guardian Angels Central Catholic should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Nebraska Rankings. The Bluejays (ranked 29th) will meet Elkhorn Valley (ranked 119th) at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Guardian Angels Central Catholic will challenge Crofton at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank advantage (16 vs. 168).
