Volleyball Recap: Pierce Takes a Loss

Fans were treated to a battle of the Bluejays on Tuesday. Pierce fell just short of Guardian Angels Central Catholic by a score of 3-2. Pierce was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Guardian Angels Central Catholic apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

Pierce started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 18-25, 24-26, 27-25, 25-21, 15-11.

Despite the loss, Pierce still got an impressive performance from Josie Painter, who had 17 digs and three aces. With that strong performance, Painter is now averaging an impressive 10.2 digs per game.

Guardian Angels Central Catholic found their leader in sophomore Emma Cohee, who had 52 assists and six digs. Cohee is on a roll when it comes to assists, as she's now posted 17 or more in each of the last 30 games she's played dating back to last season.

The defeat snapped Pierce's winning streak at three matches and leaves them with a 18-7 record. As for Guardian Angels Central Catholic, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 22-2.

Pierce wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 3-1 win against Elkhorn Valley on the 16th. As for Guardian Angels Central Catholic, they have also already played their next match, a 3-0 victory against Crofton on the 16th.
