Softball Recap: Maryville Has No Trouble Against St. Vincent-St. Mary

Maryville was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against St. Vincent-St. Mary on Wednesday. The Red Rebels were the clear victors by a 10-4 margin over the Fighting Irish. Considering the Red Rebels have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Isabella Saunders was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in March.

In other pitching news, Sadie Johnson looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

Back at the plate, Allie Watson was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Harper White, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI.

Maryville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive games.

Maryville's record now sits at 12-9. As for St. Vincent-St. Mary, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season.

Maryville has already played their next contest (against Knoxville Central), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. As for St. Vincent-St. Mary, they have also already played their next game, a 10-4 loss against Varsity Opponent on the 23rd.
