Baseball Recap: MacArthur Takes a Loss

MacArthur extended their losing streak to seven on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 3-9 in the process. They came up short against the Springfield Southeast Spartans, falling 12-2. If the Generals were looking for revenge after losing 18-1 to the Spartans when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

MacArthur saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aidan Bruce, who went 1-for-3 with one RBI.

As for Springfield Southeast, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-12. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games.

On Springfield Southeast's side, C Murphy was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Murphy was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on E Murphy, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was T Herrington, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.

MacArthur and Springfield Southeast could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Generals will take on Warrensburg-Latham at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank disadvantage (456 vs. 98). Meanwhile, Springfield Southeast (ranked 400th) will meet Mt. Pulaski (ranked 134th) at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
