Basketball Game Preview: Cook County Vikings vs. Fond du Lac Ojibwe O Ogichida

Cook County hasn't had much luck against Fond du Lac Ojibwe O recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cook County Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Fond du Lac Ojibwe O Ogichida at 6:30 p.m. One thing working in Cook County's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches.

Last Tuesday, Cook County made easy work of Mesabi East and carried off a 73-50 win. The Vikings have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 22 points or more this season.

Denali Blackwell and Macoy Fairbanks were among the main playmakers for Cook County as the former went 8 of 13 from beyond the arc on his way to 26 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals and the latter went 9 for 14 en route to 23 points and five boards. Blackwell's evening made it seven games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicholas Spry, who went 5 of 9 on his way to 12 points.

Cook County was working as a unit and finished the game with 23 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 23 assists in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Fond du Lac Ojibwe O came up short against Hill City on Thursday, falling 79-58. The Ogichida haven't had much luck with the Hornets recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.

Cook County pushed their record up to 6-8 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 79.3 points per game. As for Fond du Lac Ojibwe O, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-9.

Cook County came up short against Fond du Lac Ojibwe O when the teams last played back in February of 2022, falling 57-48. Can Cook County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
