Baseball Recap: Central Valley Wins Going Away Against Johansen

Central Valley barely beat Johansen the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Hawks blew past the Vikings 11-1 on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Hawks' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Caden Mendonca looked comfortable as he struck out nine batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Those nine strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

At the plate, Central Valley got a massive performance out of Ezequiel Verduzco, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that Verduzco hit this season. Carter Hernandez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Central Valley was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .450. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Johansen only posted a batting average of .222.

Central Valley's record now sits at 11-7. As for Johansen, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-9-1 record this season.

Central Valley will have a chance to go back-to-back against Johansen: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
