Baseball Game Preview: Skyline Coyotes vs. Gila Ridge Hawks

The Skyline Coyotes will face off against the Gila Ridge Hawks at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with four consecutive losses for Skyline and eight for Gila Ridge.

Skyline came up short against Mountain View on Thursday, falling 9-3. That's two games in a row now that the Coyotes have lost by exactly six runs.

CJ Revoir made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Julian Otero, who went 1-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Gila Ridge came up short against McClintock on Tuesday and fell 7-2.

Raul Vera was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Gila Ridge saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Truett Jaca, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double. Luke Foppe also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Gila Ridge's record now sits at 1-9. As for Skyline, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 9-6.

Skyline's speedy runners might be the difference in Saturday's matchup. Skyline has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Gila Ridge, though, as they've been averaging only 0.6 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Skyline continue to outrun the ball?

Everything went Skyline's way against Gila Ridge when the teams last played back in February of 2024, as Skyline made off with a 7-0 win. Does Skyline have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gila Ridge turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
