Baseball Recap: Pitman Drops Highest Score of Season Against Downey

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Pitman). They blew past the Downey Knights 9-2 on Monday. The Pride not only won on Monday, but they posted their biggest win since April 12, 2024.

Noah Cervantes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on two hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Ben Vilhauer and Nathan Cervantes did most of the damage at the plate: Vilhauer went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Nathan scored a run while going 3-for-5. That's the most hits Cervantes has posted since back in April of 2024. Nolan Walker was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Pitman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The victory made it two in a row for Pitman and bumps their season record up to 6-7. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 5 runs in those games. As for Downey, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-8.

Pitman will have a chance to go back-to-back against Downey: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
