Baseball Recap: Kerens Comes Up Short

Kerens extended their losing streak to eight on Thursday, dropping them down to 1-9. They lost 16-2 to the Cayuga Wildcats. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bobcats have suffered against the Wildcats since April 25, 2023.

Kooper Hill made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Cayuga, their record now sits at 16-7. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by ten runs or more this season.

On Cayuga's side, Cash Conner was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits. Conner was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Gus Wilfong and Jesse Wilfong did most of the damage at the plate: Gus went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one stolen base, while Jesse went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Those four hits gave Jesse a new career-high. Caiden Lightfoot was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

Looking ahead, Kerens will square off against Avalon at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Cayuga, they will face off against Athens Christian Preparatory Academy at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
