Preview: Lejeune Devil Pups vs. Southside Seahawks

The Lejeune Devil Pups will head out on the road to square off against the Southside Seahawks at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Lejeune focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Friday.

It may have taken overtime to finish the job, but Lejeune ultimately got the result they hoped for. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 37-34 win over Jones. The win was some much needed relief for Lejeune as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Shyanne Bryant continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Lejeune's points. Scarlett McLean was another key contributor, scoring a point along with 13 steals and five rebounds.

In what's become a running theme this season, Southside gave their fans yet another huge win on Thursday. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Jones 52-21 on the road. The victory was just what Southside needed coming off of a 50-30 defeat in their prior match.

Tamya Smith was her usual excellent self, scoring 14 points along with seven rebounds and six steals. She is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last eight games she's played. Another player making a difference was I'Kiriyah Minor, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals.

Lejeune's win ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 3-15. As for Southside, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 14-9.

Lejeune might still be hurting after the 42-22 defeat they got from Southside when the teams last played last Friday. That matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point Lejeune was down 28-6.
