Softball Game Preview: Dixon Bulldogs vs. Laney Buccaneers

The Dixon Bulldogs will face off against the Laney Buccaneers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Dixon is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.

On Thursday, Dixon needed a bit of extra time to put away East Carteret. They beat the Mariners by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 7-3.

Kailei Dawsey made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over eight innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-5.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alivia Nokes, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4. Aubrey Ray was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Dixon kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in five consecutive matches.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Laney). Everything went their way against Ashley on Tuesday as Laney made off with a 17-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Buccaneers in their matchups with the Screaming Eagle: they've now won five in a row.

Laney's win bumped their record up to 5-2. As for Dixon, they picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 5-2.
