Basketball Recap: Hamilton County Comes Up Short

Hamilton County was the 49-37 winner over Vienna when they last played one another back in November of 2019, but their luck changed this time around. The Hamilton County Foxes took a hard 54-39 fall against the Vienna Eagles on Monday. While losing is never fun, the Foxes can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 283rd, while the Eagles are ranked 60th).

When it comes to explaining why Hamilton County lost, don't look at Rayci Phelps. Despite the final result, she posted 24 points and six boards. Phelps' morning made it six games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Brylee Varner, who earned six points.

Hamilton County's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Vienna, their victory was their 14th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-2.

Hamilton County will be taking part in a tournament against Carmi-White County at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hamilton County is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.3 points per game this season. Vienna has already played their next matchup (against Varsity Opponent), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
