Basketball Recap: Albertville Picks Up Sixth Consecutive Win

Albertville waltzed into their contest on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. They blew past the Mortimer Jordan Blue Devils 72-51. The Aggies have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine games by 21 points or more this season.

Lani Smallwood continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 29 points and 15 rebounds. She has been hot, having posted 15 or more points the last six times she's played. Mylie Butler was another key player, going 6 of 15 on her way to 21 points.

Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brinley Funderburk, who went 5 for 8 on her way to 13 points and five rebounds. The dominant performance gave Funderburk a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Mattie Machen, who almost dropped a double-double on ten points and nine boards.

Albertville is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 20-3 record this season. As for Mortimer Jordan, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-6.

Albertville didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-51 win against Guntersville on the 13th. As for Mortimer Jordan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 64-30 victory against Jasper on the 14th.
