Baseball Recap: Northwest Comes Up Short

Northwest extended their losing streak to five on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 4-8 in the process. They lost 17-1 to the Harrison Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Wildcats this season, with their most recent loss being a 21-5 defeat on Monday.

Northwest saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Frey, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. That stolen base marked the first that Frey has snagged this season.

As for Harrison, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Fans of they have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.

On Harrison's side, Tucker Ward made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Ward was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.

In other batting news, Harrison got a massive performance out of Jack Geers, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. Geers is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Another player making a difference was Chad Hunter, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Coming up, Northwest will square off against Mt. Healthy at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. The Knights are facing the Fighting Owls at the right time seeing as the Fighting Owls are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Harrison, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-6 win against East Central on the 25th.
