Softball Recap: Holmen Vikings vs. West Salem Panthers
Holmen had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 6-12 to make it four. They came up short against the West Salem Panthers, falling 8-0. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.
As for West Salem, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten matches by six runs or more this season.
For West Salem's part, Josie Brudos made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over seven innings pitched. Brudos has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madison Elsen, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and four RBI. Another player making a difference was Maclaine Heilman, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double.
