Softball Recap: Socorro Takes a Loss

Socorro had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 5-17 to make it five. They came up short against the Cobre Indians, falling 20-1. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Indians this season, with their most recent defeat being a 22-1 loss on Saturday.

As for Cobre, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.7 runs over those games.

For Cobre's part, Ezmyah Dominguez looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Dominguez has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single walk in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Ayvah Ortiz, who fired off two home runs, seven RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most home runs she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Isenya Silva, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Coincidentally, Socorro and Cobre will both be playing Hatch Valley the next time they take the field. The Indians will head out to face the Bears at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, while the Warriors will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on May 1.
