Soccer Game Preview: Fort Collins vs. Erie

The Fort Collins Lambkins will head out on the road to take on the Erie Tigers at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. Erie took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Fort Collins, who comes in off a win.

Fort Collins had to skate by with only a one-goal margin when they last took the pitch, which might have inspired the eight-goal drubbing they dealt Loveland on Thursday. The Lambkins blew past the Red Wolves 9-1. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for Fort Collins' offense, which had struggled in the games prior.

Their offense was hitting Loveland from everywhere, as six different players booted in a goal. Elyse McGinnis led that balanced group of strikers and accounted for two goals all by herself.

Meanwhile, Erie faced Fairview in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Tigers lost 5-1 to the Knights. Erie were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 3-0.

Fort Collins has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 4-7-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 21 goals over those four matchups. As for Erie, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-2-2.

Fort Collins might still be hurting after the 4-1 defeat they got from Erie when the teams last played back in March of 2024. Can the Lambkins avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
