Volleyball Recap: Athens Academy Comes Up Short

Athens Academy lost against Jefferson back in August of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Spartans took a 2-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Dragons.

Athens Academy was was forced to take the loss, but they sure made Jefferson work for it, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 27-25, 25-15.

Joci Higginbotham paced Athens Academy's offense, picking up three kills. Higginbotham got some help from Lucy Wages and her five assists. Wages also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Riley Muir, racking up three apiece.

Athens Academy has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-3 record this season. As for Jefferson, they pushed their record up to 5-3 with the victory, which was their eighth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Coming up, Athens Academy will face off against Harris County at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Jefferson, they will venture away from home to take on Sandy Creek at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday.
