Basketball Game Preview: Imagine Prep Storm vs. South Pointe Griffins

Imagine Prep is 4-0 against South Pointe since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Saturday. The Imagine Prep Storm will take on the South Pointe Griffins in a tournament on Saturday. Imagine Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matchups -- so hopefully South Pointe likes a good challenge.

Imagine Prep is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way just ended the team's nine-game winning streak dating back to last season back in December of 2024. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Sequoia Pathfinder Verrado Way an easy 82-61 victory. The game marked the Storm's lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Imagine Prep might have lost, but man, Jaylen Cassidy was a machine: he posted 26 points and eight rebounds. The contest was Cassidy's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Rich Rodriguez was another key player, going 5 of 8 on his way to 11 points.

Meanwhile, South Pointe can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Thursday. They couldn't have asked for a better start to 2025 than the 69-41 blowout they got against Dream City Christian. The Griffins have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won five games by 21 points or more this season.

South Pointe found their leader in freshman Dasaan Schaeffer, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and ten boards. That makes it five consecutive games in which Schaeffer has scored at least a third of South Pointe's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Zyion Brown, who put up 18 points and eight rebounds.

South Pointe's win bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Imagine Prep, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 4-1.

Some high-performance offense is likely on the agenda as the two teams are some of the highest scoring teams in the league. Imagine Prep hasn't had any problem running up the score this season, having averaged 85.8 points per game. However, it's not like South Pointe struggles in that department as they've been averaging 57.6 points. With both teams so easily able to put up points, the only question left is who can run the score up higher.

Everything came up roses for Imagine Prep against South Pointe when the teams last played back in February of 2023, as the squad secured a 74-41 victory. In that matchup, Imagine Prep amassed a halftime lead of 42-20, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Saturday.
