Football Recap: Rock Island Comes Up Short + How To Watch

Rock Island extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to five on Friday, dropping them down to 0-3. They were dealt a 45-10 loss at the hands of the Geneseo Maple Leafs. The Rocks were not able to make up for their defeat to the Maple Leafs from their previous meeting back in October of 2024.

As for Geneseo, they now have a winning record of 2-1. The final result isn't all that surprising considering their considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois football rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Rock Island is ranked 311th).

Kye Weinzierl was nothing short of spectacular: he rushed for 227 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only ten carries. He didn't just play on offense: he also picked up two sacks and made 17 total tackles (3.0 for loss). Another player making a difference was Jackson McAvoy, who rushed for 77 yards and two TDs on only nine carries.
