Basketball Recap: Swain County Maroon Devils vs. Franklin Panthers
Swain County was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They lost 55-34 to the Franklin Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Maroon Devils can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 487th, while the Panthers are ranked 214th).
Franklin found their leader in freshman Bristol Brooks, who almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards. Brooks continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Aubrey Haley, who posted 11 points and eight rebounds.
Swain County's defeat dropped their record down to 4-13. As for Franklin, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 13-9.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Swain County will venture away from home to face off against Robbinsville at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Franklin, they are taking a road trip to square off against West Henderson at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Franklin has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 180 points over their last three matches.
