Basketball Recap: El Paso Gets the Win

El Paso won against Jefferson last Tuesday with 57 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The El Paso Tigers walked away with a 57-48 victory over the Burges Mustangs. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.

Sebastian Ruvalcaba was nothing short of spectacular: he went 9 for 13 on his way to 22 points. Those 22 points gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Brody John, who went 5 of 8 en route to 14 points and six rebounds.

El Paso smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burges only pulled down seven offensive boards.

When it comes to explaining why Burges lost, don't look at Anthony Rubio. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 22 points and 13 boards. The matchup was Rubio's third in a row with at least 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Phillip A. Leff, who posted eight points.

El Paso's victory bumped their record up to 17-13. As for Burges, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-18 record this season.

El Paso didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-53 loss against Canutillo on the 4th. As for Burges, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 75-48 defeat against Chapin on the 5th.
