Softball Game Preview: New Summerfield Hornets vs. Alto Yellowjackets

For the second straight game, New Summerfield will face off against Alto. It'll be a Battle of the Bugs New Summerfield Hornets challenge Alto Yellowjackets at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. New Summerfield has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the game with seven straight defeats, while Alto will come in with five straight victories.

New Summerfield came up short against Alto on Tuesday, falling 20-5.

For Alto's part, Lacey Stephenson was a major factor no matter where she played. She pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Stephenson was also big at the plate, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Brianna Low, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-2. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Emily Gonzalez was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Alto was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .529. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .320 or higher in four consecutive contests.

Alto pushed their record up to 7-3-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for New Summerfield, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.
