Baseball Game Preview: Madison Warhawks vs. Monte Vista Monarchs

The Madison Warhawks will be taking part in a tournament against the Monte Vista Monarchs at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Madison will be strutting in after a victory while Monte Vista will be coming in after a defeat.

Madison lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Steele Canyon, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Wednesday's match. Madison put the hurt on Steele Canyon with a sharp 11-1 win on Wednesday. The Warhawks not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 19, 2024.

Jorge Luque looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Leo Wilderman was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Dakota James, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

Madison always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Steele Canyon only posted an OBP of .241.

Meanwhile, Monte Vista didn't have quite enough to beat Christian on Wednesday and fell 6-5.

Monte Vista saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Adrian Gutierrez, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one double and one RBI. Ben Kurtz was another, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

Monte Vista's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Madison, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.

Madison beat Monte Vista 5-1 when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Does Madison have another victory up their sleeve, or will Monte Vista turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
