The Eldorado Golden Eagles are taking a road trip to square off against the Los Lunas Tigers at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Eldorado is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.
Eldorado is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Sandia, who was ranked fifth at the time (Eldorado was ranked sixth). The Golden Eagles had just enough and edged out the Matadors 10-8. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last three times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

The team relied heavily on Timothy Kamphuis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and three doubles. He also scored two runs, which is notable because Eldorado is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 4-7 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Cirillio Martinez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs.
Eldorado was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in five consecutive games.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Los Lunas, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 15-2 margin over Albuquerque on Tuesday. The Tigers have beaten the Bulldogs the last six times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Bulldogs has come to flipping the script.
JJ Utash was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one stolen base. Mark Scime also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Los Lunas' win was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 15-9. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Eldorado, their record now sits at 16-7.
Thursday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Eldorado hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .372. However, it's not like Los Lunas struggles in that department as they've averaged .324. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Eldorado came out on top in a nail-biter against Los Lunas in their previous matchup back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Golden Eagles since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
