Rifle extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Wednesday, dropping them down to 0-7. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Aspen Skiers. The Bears were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Skiers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2025.
Remington Decrow was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Decrow was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, Tyler Arnold made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Kale Potter, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI.
As for Aspen, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 6-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 12.0 runs this season.
Like Rifle, Aspen also got a great game from a two-way player: William Marolt. He tossed 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Marolt has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Clayton Folk, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Dylan Mika was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Rifle will take on Eagle Valley at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Bears' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Devils have averaged an impressive 9.5 runs per game this season. As for Aspen, they will square off against Coal Ridge at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Skiers will need to watch out since the Titans have now posted at least ten runs in their last three matchups.
