Softball Game Preview: Mayfield Cardinals vs. Carlisle County Comets

Mayfield is 2-8 against Carlisle County since May of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Comets at 6:00 p.m. Mayfield has given up an average of 11.4 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mayfield is headed into Thursday's match looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fourth straight game on Wednesday. They came up short against Ballard Memorial, falling 18-1. That's two games in a row now that the Cardinals have lost by exactly 17 runs.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Carlisle County). Their pitchers stepped up to hand Fulton City a 20-0 shutout on Tuesday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Comets needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Carlisle County's win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 3-11. As for Mayfield, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.

Mayfield was able to grind out a solid victory over Carlisle County when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 5-2. Do the Cardinals have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Comets turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
