Basketball Recap: Savina Wells Key Part of a Team Effort in Pirates Win

Fernandina Beach's game last Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They blew past the Yulee Hornets 55-33. The Pirates have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fernandina Beach to victory, but perhaps none more so than Savina Wells, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which Wells has scored at least a third of Fernandina Beach's points. Julianna Miller was another key player, going 7 for 12 en route to 17 points along with seven assists and four steals.

Fernandina Beach smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in eight consecutive matches.

Despite the loss, Yulee still got an impressive performance from Rheyna Hilton, who went 8 of 9 on her way to 17 points in addition to six boards and six blocks. That's the most blocks Hilton has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Crystal Hayes, who posted five points along with seven steals and five assists.

Fernandina Beach's record is now 10-11. As for Yulee, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.

Fernandina Beach will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Baker County at 4:00 p.m. Baker County has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 181 points over their last three games. Yulee has already played their next contest (against Raines), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
