Basketball Recap: Highland Tech Drops Season-High Score on Langtree Charter Academy

Highland Tech scored the most points they've had this season on Wednesday, but it wasn't enough. They fell just short of the Langtree Charter Academy Lions by a score of 67-65. While losing is never fun, the Rams can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 293rd, while the Lions are ranked 67th).

When it comes to explaining why Highland Tech lost, don't look at Elijah Sherrill. Despite the final result, he went 10 of 16 on his way to 42 points along with six assists and six boards. The game was Sherrill's 12th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper McCraw, who went 7 for 9 on his way to 16 points and seven rebounds.

Jerel Brawley was his usual excellent self, going 8 of 18 on his way to 25 points in addition to six assists and four steals for Langtree Charter Academy. Brawley is crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least two every time he's taken the court this season. Ashton Munters was another key player, going 5 for 11 on his way to 14 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Highland Tech and nudges their season record down to 4-4. As for Langtree Charter Academy, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 5-1.

Highland Tech will look to defend their home court on December 19th against Burns at 7:30 p.m. As for Langtree Charter Academy, they will head out to challenge Bradford Prep at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Bradford Prep's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season.
