Softball Recap: Verrado Wins Going Away Against Cortez

Verrado got themselves on the board against Cortez on Friday, but Cortez never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Colts with a sharp 20-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Vipers, who have now won 13 matches by six runs or more so far this season.

Maddie Allen made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Cameron Marchese was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Jaiden Stell was another key player, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Verrado always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cortez only posted an OBP of .250.

Verrado's record now sits at 18-3. As for Cortez, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Verrado didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 7-0 loss against Flagstaff on the 18th. As for Cortez, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next match, a 35-25 win against Dysart on the 21st.
