Football Recap: Mitchell Makes It Three in a Row at Home

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Mountain Heritage, Mitchell was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 47-31 victory over the Madison Patriots. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Mountaineers considering their 13-point performance the contest before.

Owen Riddle threw for 94 yards and one TD. Kaden Buchanan was his top target, picking up 79 receiving yards and one touchdown. On the ground, Kaj Pitman rushed for 128 yards and four scores on only ten carries.

Madison's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Dallas Bartlett, who rushed for 46 yards and one TD, and also threw for 150 yards and one touchdown. The Patriots also got a significant boost from Ivan Blankenship, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 105 yards.

Mitchell pushed their record up to 5-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 40.3 points over those games. As for Madison, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-6 record this season.

Mitchell will look to defend their home field on Friday against Avery County at 7:30 p.m. The Mountaineers will be up against the Vikings' rather soft defense (which has allowed 48.22 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. Madison does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
