Volleyball Recap: Ethan Comes Up Short

After flying high against Howard last Tuesday, Ethan came back down to earth. The Rustlers fell just short of the Avon Pirates by a score of 3-2 on Monday. While the Rustlers didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Pirates 25-12 in the first set.

Ethan actually scored more points across those five sets (106-103), but sadly they still had to settle for second. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 12-25, 25-19, 25-21, 23-25, 18-16.

Leading Avon to victory were Jordyn Voigt and Lexi Vanderlei. Voigt had 23 digs and one assist, while Vanderlei had 13 digs. Voigt is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 16 or more in each of the last three games she's played.

The loss snapped Ethan's winning streak at three matches and leaves them with a 18-9 record. As for Avon, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 16-10.

Looking ahead, Ethan will head out on the road to square off against Miller at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Avon, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 3-1 victory against Corsica/Stickney on the 21st.
