Football Recap: Frenship Tigers vs. Lubbock-Cooper Pirates
If Frenship was riding high fresh off their 61-14 takedown of Legacy last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Tigers were just a hair shy of victory on Friday and fell 57-56 to the Lubbock-Cooper Pirates. Tigers fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Pirates since Friday.
Despite the loss, Frenship still got an impressive performance from Chase Campbell, who picked up 160 receiving yards and four TDs, and also rushed for 33 yards and one touchdown. Another passer making a difference was Quaid Ferris, who threw for 340 yards and five touchdowns.
Ryan Rodriguez Jr had another great game (as he tends to do), throwing for 483 yards and five TDs for Lubbock-Cooper. That's the most passing touchdowns Rodriguez Jr has posted since back in October of 2024. Chamayne Johnson Jr helped Rodriguez Jr out on the ground, rushing for 45 yards and three scores, while also picking up 39 receiving yards and one score.
Frenship's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Lubbock-Cooper, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 3-1.
Coming up, Frenship will look to defend their home field on Friday against Midland Christian at 7:00 p.m. As for Lubbock-Cooper, they will head out on the road to face off against Plainview at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 1,046 yards in their previous games.
