League recap: West Bend-Mallard tops Laurens-Marathon to extend winning streak

West Bend-Mallard added to the longest winning streak in 8-Man District 2 (8 Man) this week by beating Laurens-Marathon, 74-0. The win marks ninth in a row for the the Wolverines.

West Bend-Mallard took down the Chargers 74-0 last week, the largest margin of any game.

Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Titans feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Marcus Girres has thrown for 333 yards and 4 touchdowns this season, while Jake Wegener has 6 catches for 165 yards.

The marquee game in the league this week will be the clash between Newell-Fonda and Kyl Gillespie's team. The Mustangs enters the contest ranked sixth in the state, while the Wolverines ranks second.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Newell-Fonda takes on West Bend-Mallard. Brian Wilken's team has allowed 107 points this season, while the Wolverines have given up 74. The Mustangs allowed 7 points last week as they beat Cal-DOWS.

Newell-Fonda led the league in scoring this week after putting up 81 points on the Cadets.
