Basketball Recap: Orpheu Cummings' Big Game Can't Quite Lead University over Venice

University was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a 55-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Venice Gondoliers. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 823rd, while the Gondoliers are ranked 302nd).

University lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Orpheu Cummings, who went 6 for 10 en route to 16 points. Jonah Hansen was another key player, putting up 11 points.

University's loss dropped their record down to 9-14. As for Venice, they have been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests, which provided a massive bump to their 12-12 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. University will head out to square off against Westchester at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Venice, they will venture away from home to face off against Fairfax at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
