Softball Recap: Avon Takes a Loss

Avon fought the good fight in their extra-innings match against Keshequa on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Indians by a score of 4-3. The Braves have struggled against the Indians recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

Jessie Crye put in work while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out 23 over 8.1 innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than 13 strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Crye wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Payton Rice, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

Avon suffered their first road loss, dropping their record down to 9-2. As for Keshequa, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Avon will square off against Le Roy at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Braves 1.5, the Oatkan Knights 3.7) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Keshequa, they will take on Wellsville at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
