Basketball Recap: South Bend Washington Takes a Loss

If South Bend Washington was feeling good fresh off their 89-60 takedown of Elkhart last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The South Bend Washington Panthers were just a bucket shy of victory on Tuesday and fell 51-50 to the LaVille Lancers. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Panthers came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 85th, while the Lancers are ranked 220th).

South Bend Washington's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Jaydon Lineberry, who dropped a double-double with 14 points and ten boards, and DaKori Parker, who posted 14 points in addition to seven assists and three steals. Those 14 points gave Lineberry a new career-high. Kelin Webster was another key player, putting up eight points.

Even though they lost, South Bend Washington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

It was another big night for Collin Czarnecki, who went 10-for-20 en route to 29 points for LaVille. That makes it 18 consecutive games in which Czarnecki has scored at least a third of LaVille's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Andre Gonzales, who had ten points.

South Bend Washington's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6. As for LaVille, their win bumped their record up to 14-8.

South Bend Washington has already played their next match, a 60-57 loss against Tippecanoe Valley on the 28th. As for LaVille, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 59-46 victory against Trinity Greenlawn on the 27th.
