Baseball Game Preview: La Porte Slicers vs. Michigan City Wolves

La Porte is 9-1 against Michigan City since April of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Slicers will square off against the Wolves at 4:30 p.m. La Porte will be strutting in after a win while Michigan City will be coming in after a defeat.

La Porte's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Saturday. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over Plymouth. The Slicers haven't had any issues with the Pilgrims/Rockies recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Ethan Schoof tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over six innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because La Porte is 2-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 3-8 otherwise.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bryce McShane, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high. Braxton Maxfield also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Michigan City was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Morgan Township, falling 16-9.

Justice Randall and Keegan Cowgill did some serious damage despite the final result: Randall went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run, while Cowgill went 2-for-5 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Michigan City's defeat dropped their record down to 2-10. As for La Porte, their victory bumped their record up to 5-9.

La Porte took their win against Michigan City when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 8-0 score. Will the Slicers repeat their success, or do the Wolves have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
